Detroit Is Starting To Heat Up 07/16 & 07/17

So the wife & I had a weekend to ourselves and since I needed to pick the boat up from Detroit for the Wickiup Kokanee Power of Oregon Derby next weekend we decided to head up to our private camp spot.  My buddy Lane was supposed to meet up with me on Saturday with his two kids, and I had told him that if he didn’t show up I would limit out… Guess what we limited out and I think I could have pick up another two limits pretty easy on Saturday.  THANKS LANE!!!!  First thing in the morning, and when I say first thing I mean 9:00am because I talked my wife into sleeping in, they were hitting Wiggle hoochies 2’ back from a Sling Blade.  Pink was my best color and they liked the Corn with Kokanee Magic, and Anise this weekend over any of the other flavors I had worked up.  20 foot setback, 1.3 mph and @ 45 feet, they had moved up since the last time I was there.  Water temp was 60.3 and I picked them up in the same locating as 4th of July weekend, Kenny Creek Arm.  Later in the afternoon they moved to the middle of the lake and preferred an Apex 2’ behind a sling blade, Silver was the best color same setback same speed same depth.

Kok’s are starting to get some SHOLDERS on them!!!

Bet you can’t tell I get excited everything time I pick one of these up in my boat….

Wife says she wants me to come up with a Rainbow Repellent.  I still think they are fun to reel in… Fish was released unharmed

Sunday morning we got up earlier, because the wife wouldn’t let me sleep in, and we only fished a few hours fish started out in the middle of the lake and the kok’s wanted wiggle hoochies right off the bat, glow white was the best color 15 foot setback 1.5mph 50 feet of water.  Then it went dead after the first hour so I started to switch things up and began to pick them up on a homemade wedding rings, silver bottom white middle pink top and black size 2 Colorado blade with a pink sticker.  I told my wife this lure was going to be a complete dud or a one hit wonder.  I prefer it when they are a one hit wonder.  Ended that half day with 6 nice kok’s all around 14inches after a day & a half of fishing we bagged 17 kok’s lost around 7 let one kok go that was 8 inches and let 32 rainbow go back in the lake with a few really nice ones in the mix.

My dogs enjoying a kokanee fishing trip…

 Nice weather for July…. RIGHT..

My wife with the weekend HAUL!!!

Now that is a Kokanee Fillet…

I told my wife we would fill the freezer up this year…

All & All a great weekend with the Wife and my two dogs…  I’ll be at Wickiup next weekend so I’ll give you an update on that lake as well as what I’m picking them up on.  If you have any other question feel free to send me an E-Mail… until then I’ll see you on the Lake…
